"The hours available for learning are far more limited than they initially appear" (Weinstein et. al., 203).
Flipped classroom
The newest initiative schools are taking to building more practice and experiment time in the classroom is with a flipped classroom model. The model utilizes Internet technology to leverage classroom learning. Therefore, teachers spend less time lecturing and more time problems solving with students. Typically what happens is students are assigned to view teacher created videos as "homework assignments" and then come in to class prepared to practice the content. Hence the classroom has been flipped with traditional instruction being at home via videos on the web and then assigned problems that exercise students’ mastery of the content in the classroom where teachers can assist. Teachers who feel pressured to fit both instruction and practice into a 45 minute may want to try this model. Just be sure that it is approved by your principal or superintendent first.
